Democrat Party Disenfranchises Michigan Voters in Presidential Primary!

The Presidential Primary in Michigan is rapidly approaching. You can cast your votes on January 15, 2008. But quite possibly you are NOT ALLOWED to vote for your favorite candidate!! This is serious, folks.

In an earlier article on FentonSays.com we have available for view the preliminary primary ballots. If you take a look, you'll notice that Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, Senator Joe Biden of Delaware, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, and former Senator John Edwards of North Carolina are NOT on the Democrat Primary ballot. Not only aren't they on the ballot, but if you decide to try to write them in ... YOUR VOTE WILL BE THROWN OUT.

Read that last sentence again ... if you decide to try to write-in your favorite Democrat candidate for President YOUR VOTE WILL BE THROWN OUT.

"If there's no campaign, the candidate most likely to win Michigan is Hillary Clinton," Bill Schneider said. "Her Democratic rivals don't want a Clinton victory in Michigan to count. They want Iowa and New Hampshire, where they have a better chance of stopping Clinton, to count more."

If you are a Democrat in Michigan, the DNC (Democratic National Committee) has basically made your choice for you ... Hillary Clinton will be your nominee for President (you don't really think the other guys on the ballot stand a chance, do you?). We have a female socialist as Governor of Michigan, and Michigan's "choice" for the Democrat nominee will also be another female socialist. What is going on, people?!?!

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!!!

Tornado Picture Video from Neighboring Eaton County

FentonSays reader, Kent, shares with us his video montage of the the August 24th storm from neighboring Eaton County. Though not specific to Fenton, Michigan, this piece is still important as it captures the devastation we in south east Michigan experienced on that day. It is during times like these that neighbors pull together for the greater common good. And it is in this light that the storm and periodic tornadoes of 8/24/07 produced heroes more so than tragedies.

"This is a compilation video of the area where my daughter and son-in-law live. Her house is the one with the trees laying on it. They were home with their 6 year old daughter when the tornado hit. No injuries. They live just north of Charlotte MI.

Fenton Tornado Community Center Clean-Up

The still shot to the left was taken from "The Streets of Fenton" video series shot on July 11, 2007 ... weeks before the tornado struck. The picture is of the front of the Community Center with the building off camera to the right. Notice all the lush trees on the horizon on the right. They are now gone.

This video footage presented below was shot on Friday, August 31, 2007 out front of the Community Center in Fenton, MI. Clean up efforts from the tornado continue, but the town has been returned to basically normal status. The area by the Shiawassee River on the south side of the Community Center used to be covered in trees, but is an open clearing now. People work on top of the Community Center. Heavy equipment is being used.

"New Trees, Please!"

"I am a teacher in Fenton at Tomek-Eastern Elementary and the Chairperson of the Parks and Recreation Board in Fenton. Because of the horrible devastation in the downtown city parks (O'Donnell Park, Rackham Park and Millpond Park) in the recent tornado, the teachers at our school are spearheading a drive with the children to fund new trees in the park. Our effort is called "New Trees, Please!"

We will be talking with our classes this coming week and collecting donations at school and around the community all year long. We are hoping to have some new trees planted next spring. We are, of course, very grateful that injuries from the tornado were few, but the loss of so many 100 year old trees is a great loss to the city. It is so sad, but we hope to make a difference. I have a Powerpoint display or individual pictures that I took of the storm and also of the parks during July of this year. I was working on collecting pictures for a webpage for the parks so I have both before and after pictures of the parks.

Donations will be gladly accepted at Tomek-Eastern Elementary at 600 Fourth St. Fenton, Michigan 48430. Thank you for any publicity you can give to this cause."

Fenton Tornado: Special "Streets of Fenton" Video Tour - Dibbleville Tornado

This is the first footage we took right after the storm and tornadoes blew through town. Many of the downed power lines were already being sectioned off and traffic being re-routed, however we somehow managed to work our way northbound through Dibbleville into downtown Fenton, Michigan. We started to catch quick video clips here and there when the magnitude of the devastation started to become apparent.

This two minute and ten second video is a clip montage of the first part of the aftermath of the Fenton tornadoes of 2007. This footage was taken roughly after 6:00 p.m. on the evening of August 24, 2007.

The Sounds of Chainsaws After Tornado Hits

On August 24th, 2007 the small town of Fenton, MI was pummelled by a tornado. Some residents near the north end of town kept power, however much of Fenton spent the first and most of the second nights in darkness. No major injuries have been reported thus far, which is amazing. Especially given the extensive property damage taken from falling trees and power lines. Here is some video footage of the damage:

Fire Closes Down Blackburns Subs & Sandwiches

Blackburns? You bet it did. In the early morning hours in late June, a passer-by noticed fire in the building of Blackburns Subs and Sandwiches at 2117 South Long Lake Road. Firefighters arrived to find a fire within the walls and ceiling in the eating area of the restaurant.

Preliminary estimates have the damage caused by this fire to be between $25,000 - $50,000. Blackburns is currently closed for repairs and to remove smoke damage.

Known for their delicious sub sandwiches and very reasonable food prices, Blackburns is a well known eatery in Fenton just across from the south side of Lake Fenton.

Teen Dies in Fatal Car Crash

We build our buildings with brick and mortar. But they, like us, can fall at any moment. The damage seen to the front of the Fenton House restaurant in the Dibbleville area near downtown Fenton was caused by a fatal car crash last Thursday in the early hours near 2:00 a.m.

The driver of the SUV, an 18-year-old from Holly, slammed into the front of the Fenton House restaurant on South Leroy Street and was tragically killed upon impact. His two passengers were injured. One was reported in critical condition as of Friday morning. The other, and apparently the only one wearing a seat belt at the time, is reported as having sustained minor injuries. Fortunately no others were injured.

The tragic loss of life leaves us with a couple of reminders. Do not drink and drive. It's ok to drink (if you're over 21). It's ok to drive (if you're over 16). But please, do not do both at the same time. Police believe that alcohol was involved in this fatal accident. Also, if the police want to pull you over ... pull over. It is a crime to flee an officer of the law. It appears that these teens were fleeing a police officer at a high rate of speed, and lost control of their vehicle.

Buildings can be repaired with more bricks and mortar. Lives senselessly lost cannot. Rest in peace, young one. And the rest of you ... be safe out there.
