The long holiday weekend is now upon us. Sprinkles of rain were felt this morning in Fenton, Michigan. But there is still hope for a wonderful weather. But the Memorial Day Weekend isn't really about nice weather, is it? No. It is about honoring the brave men and women who have fought for, and died for, our freedoms.

And speaking about raising a glass in an honorable Memorial Day toast, did you know that the Penalty Box in Fenton, Michigan serves up chilled, mini-kegs in a contraption they call the Tower of Beer? 100 ounces of cold, refreshing brew can be yours (and your friends') just off of Owen Road.

Enjoy and Be Safe, Fentonites!

Fenton, Michigan Goals For Fiscal Year 2008

This is a pretty interesting read. You can see what the stated goals and objectives are in 2008 for the City Manager, Assistant City Manager, City Treasurer, the Police Department, the Public Works Department, the Building and Zoning Department, the Fire Department, City Assessor, and Economic Development.

Download your own copy of the Memorandum from City Manager Mike Senyko.

The City of Fenton should have a website soon. By the sounds the memo, the City of Fenton should be able to get an operational website for under $20,000. I would think so, too.

Times are tougher for us Michiganders, but wouldn't it be nice to get renovations with costs exceeding $100,000 this year alone? I think my home could be spruced up a little bit, but we really don't have the money to do many of the projects we would like to do. Especially considering how much we are spending on the water bills in Fenton after two huge rate hikes. But that's what the City of Fenton is going to do with significant renovations to our City Hall.

Speaking about rising water bills, this quote is interesting ... "As directed by Council, we applied for and received funding on multi-million dollar water and sewer projects. As a result, we will need to increase water and sewer rates by a minimum of $18 per quarter while commencing design with our new engineering firm. The projects are slated to begin in the fall of 2007." SERIOUSLY ?!?! The other two rate hikes didn't generate enough revenue? Weren't we told before the new treatment plan went in that these projects were not anticipated to raise our rates?!?!

But hey, we may get new Christmas lights. So we've got that to look forward to. Which is nice.
