Does anybody remember when you could drive from Dibbleville to S. Long Lake

Rd in 2-3 minutes. With all the traffic, it now takes at least 10 minutes.

I understand that 10 minutes is not a long time, but it is still

ridiculous. I am thinking about starting a petition which would limit the

number of cars allowed on the road from 6 a.m. until midnight. Just think

about it...no waiting at a light that changes 3 times before you can make

it through. No loud thumping music. No accidents or pedestrians being

threatened. It would be just like paradise. And, think of all the money

everybody would save on gas. If anybody agrees with me on this, please,

feel free to comment.

Tiers To You!!

Good Morning Everyone - In the last 24 hrs. there has been so much happening. The Merchandise Mart show was an awesome experience - and we wrote many orders - the Chicago Tribute stopped by, and will be interviewing Kelly shortly to do a feature article. Most exciting, the Merchandise Mart team informed us that the magazine Gifts and Dec - trade magazine featured us in an e-blast, and this A.M. when we checked the computer, we had over 600 hits to our website, and inquires from almost every U.S. state, and Europe. Still can't believe they picked us and our booth picture!

From the Merchandise Mart newsletter:

One of the new companies that really caught our eye is Tiers to You. The idea behind the product was one of the most unique we've seen at market: one-of-a-kind, tiered serving pieces made from vintage and/or heirloom china.

Pieces vary from one tier to three-tiered sets that are transformed from pieces of china (cups, saucers, gravy boats, dessert dishes and the like) into such items as chip and dip sets, cookie platters and more.

There are four collections to choose from: Everyday Shabby Chic, All Dressed Up, The Upper Tier and Mrs. Potts. The products are limited only by the imaginations of its three creators: mother/daughter team Kathy and Kelly Williams and friend their Diane Thorne. And from what we could see, those imaginations are limitless.

See for yourself at www.tierstoyou.com.

And we'll see you next in Washington, DC!
- Maria Weiskott
-------------------------------------------

From the Tiers To You web site:

What exactly is a Tiers To You set? - a set is a unique, one of a kind, serving piece and display item for your home made out of vintage plates, platters, bowls, teacups and any other wonderful and creative pieces we can find.

People always ask "where do you find this stuff?" and the answer is "everywhere!" We have found amazing china like Spode, Homer Laughlin, Haviland, Warwick, Edwin Knowles, W.S. George, and Limoges in just about every state we've traveled.

Picture us walking down a dirt road in New Mexico on a tip that we would find a unique shop hidden at the very end. It is 90 degrees, and all we can think of is a cold Margarita, but the quest for great pieces keeps us going. Or the eclectic shop in Florida that we discovered in the middle of nowhere, a spot where instead of great china we found the warmth and kindness of a woman who sent us on to the next shop with smiles on our faces. Or the garage sale in Michigan, where we found only one plate, but left with a bag full of tomatoes that the woman said she wanted us to have - tomatoes from her garden.

We have found so many things we never expected to find - from an old vintage Pope George platter in a dusty Chicago antique shop to the hand delivery of "Grandma Mary's china" to our doorstep. The woman had the china in her basement forever and just wanted us to use her Grandmother's china in the sets we make. We love what we do - hunting for amazing pieces and transforming the old into treasures for today. We'd love to make a Tiers To You set for you and for someone you love!

There are three ways to order a Tiers To You set:

"Surprise Me!" - tell us a little bit about yourself and we will create a set with you in mind. This is also a wonderful way to let someone know how much they mean to you - tell us about them (we will ask you some questions) and we will create from there.

"In My Dreams!" - dream up a set by sharing with us some of your "must have" details including color, number of tiers, whether you love candlesticks, creamers or teacups. This order option may also be used to dream up a set for a friend!

"It's Me!"- we may have already created the perfect set for you, almost as if we knew you were coming. So please check out our "It's Me!" page to see the sets we've recently created...one of which may just resonate with you! We've also placed a few favorites throughout our website. To order a set seen on our site, you must "reserve" it first, because one it's gone...it's gone, so please follow the ordering instructions on our "It's Me!" page.

Target Store Update - Grand Opening Soon!

Here is an updating on the coming Grand Opening of the new Target store in Fenton, Michigan. If anyone else has additional information of local interest, please send your comments for publication on FentonSays.com to admin@fentonsays.com.

The official date of the Grand Opening is July 23, 2006. There has been a lot of confusion as to when the Grand Opening is because Target does have some other activities planned leading up to the big date. Earlier reports, which have not yet been contradicted, states that Target will be opening their doors to the public on the 21st.

The location of this new store is near the intersection of U.S. 23 and Owen Road in Fenton. This is the third Target store in Genesee County with the previous two both being located in Flint. The store in Fenton is larger than traditional Target stores, boasting 127,000 square feet of space. This is the only Target store in the area that will have a Starbuck's located within the store. You read it right ... there will now be a Starbuck's in Fenton. I still like the coffee at Cafe Aroma or the French Laundry a lot better. But you Starbuck's junkies can now get your fix.

Other features of this store will include a Pharmacy and an expanded Refrigeration and Frozen Departments. Over 700 people submitted applications for the 200 jobs that Target has brought to town. This includes 22 full time managers. If you have an especially good resume and prior work history, you still may have a shot at getting one of these positions, but rumor has it that all of the initial job positions have been filled.

You may have noticed that the traffic light at Owen Road at the entrance of the new Target store in Fenton became operational this past Tuesday. Local residents and city officials are hopeful these new lights will keep the anticipated increase in traffic safely regulated. Welcome to Fenton, MI Target!

The City of Fenton is considering applying to the State of Michigan and MDOT to take control of Silver Lake Road in Fenton.  The idea is that if the City does not assume control of Silver Lake Road, that the only improvement that is scheduled to be made is a simple repaving and not until 2009.  If the City of Fenton can gain control over Silver Lake Road, it can be widened to three lanes and curbs can be installed to assist with drainage.  All for an estimated price tag of $3.8 million.  I find this interesting especially in light of this recent Water Department project which has put the burden of two significant water rate hikes on the citizens in the last few years.  Unexpected costs due to increased chemical costs first, and then not enough sewer hook ups causing yet another big water rate hike.  Do we have the skills and talents we need to lead this City, who will present accurate information and estimates, and who can manage this mega-projects?  As far as I'm concerned the jury is still out.  I'm personally cautiously optimistic, and admittedly stupidly so, that we are equipped to handle these multi-million dollar projects.

These gas prices are crazy.  I remember when gas prices were in the low teens.  And I mean cents.  Course I can remember when Coke was a nickel and movie didn't hardly cost a quarter.  Guess that's what I get for remembering.  Anyways, I have been trying out that gas prices link you have in the left column there under the Fenton links place.  Got to tell you, those prices from the different gas stations in the area are pretty accurate.  That's a nice service you got here and a nice resource.  Now before I head out to fill up on gas, I can come here and check what the gas prices are in the Fenton area.  Sure beats driving around burning up gas trying to find a better gas price.  Just wanted to say thanks and keep up the good work.  This can be a nice resource for us local Fenton folks.

[editorial note:  You are most certainly welcome.  And thank you for contributing to FentonSays!  All comments and contributions welcome.]

Hey, what a great parade in Fenton.  Nice job everybody.  That's about as long as it should be.  If we have to be more selective in the future due to even greater participation, we should keep the focus as close to Fenton as possible.  The people from surrounding areas in the floats did a nice job.  And that rubber ducky race is a really fun thing.  Kids and adults love it.  I'm glad we still have that small town feel.  That was a very nice celebration.
